An update

It seems like a long time since we posted anything wedding related. I blame Star Wars. But on one more Star Wars related note, I beat Daorcey in Star Wars Trivial Pursuit. Bwahaha. Who's the biggest geek now?

Anyways, I bought a second dress to wear at the reception as per Chinese tradition. It's a Chinese dress and red, since that's the colour of weddings in China. And a new pair of gold shoes to boot, pun intended.

Wedding favours are coming along. We bought the chocolate bars and now must gussy them up in a fancy way. I've had several excited offers to help out but we'll see how enthusiastic they are after wrapping 120.

Also today was the last day to book a hotel room at Chateau Canmore. So if you're reading this, it's probably too late although if you call within the next few days you might be in luck.

And the Tanners and Brenda, Barrie's girlfriend, have very kindly bought us the Bay blanket. Daorcey was giddy as a schoolgirl and is almost as excited about it as he was about the Darth Vader mask. It's a lovely gift so thanks for buying it.

We're also busy buying presents for Brad and Toni who are getting married Aug. 20. We've sent the reply card and bought the gift, so there's nothing left to do but show up.

We're going up to Canmore June 11 to meet JP Gary and take Photo Gary around.

That's it for now. I'm going to be working on the music list so if you have any requests, just e-mail us.

On a totally unrelated aside, I'm convocating June 9 so I am very, very excited to get my degree.

The last Star Wars

We went to Episode III today. Daorcey won a Darth Vader Voice Changer Helmet, Luke Skywalker's lightsaber (green) and most importantly, the Trivial Pursuit game. All because Daorcey answered this question correctly: Where were the clones grown? Answer at the bottom of the post. The Sun (with their PhotoShop pagination) claimed the prize packs totalled $350, which I highly doubt.

We also got free Whoppers and pop. Luckily we were able to go from dead cow patties to dead veggie patty for Daorcey and dead chicken patty for me. Mmmm... free food.

Also ran into Dave Kenny, a former Gauntlet Buzz co-Editor (with Nicole). He was doing interviews for CBC. Speaking of former Buzz editors, we also ran into Alan too who got a free pass from the Fox rep.

The movie was pretty good, compared to the others. It wasn't mindblowingly great but it didn't suck outright. The dialogue was fairly smooth and there were no clunkers a la "Your skin is smooth, not like the sand." Gag. Although there was an exchange that was reminiscent of 16-year-olds on the phone saying "No, you hang up first. No you hang up first." Gag.

There were some really dark, powerful moments like Anakin finding the younglings in Jedi Council chambers and Obi Wan Kenobi screaming "You were the chosen one." Surprisingly, at the end of the movie, you want to watch the Original Trilogy over. Or it could be the overwhleming stench of geek.

Of course there was full out geekage. There was a group of stormtroopers, including a speederbike pilot and a space pilot, Jedis, Padmes, one rebel pilot and one Darth Vader. The costumes were high quality and probably all bought online. No homemade ones which is too bad because I think those are always more impressive. I think the stormtroopers were part of a local fan club. One of the stormtroopers was a little small so everyone busted out the line "Aren't you a little short to be a stormtrooper?" Oh and plenty of lightsabers. Also funny, (and something Jeff and I contemplated) were other people dressed up as Trekkies and one Gandalf. Needless, the Trekkies (dressed in TOS-era uniforms) got teased by the Star Wars. Besides the geeks, the media was out too.

Kenny wanted a photo of Daorcey in his DVVCH, so he obliged. While waiting for Kenny to come back, these two dudes stopped and wanted photos with Daorcey. I don't know why because it wasn't all that impressive. Obviously they hadn't seen the other guys walking around.

All in all, it was okay. But I'm now more excited for Joss Whedon's Serenity.

Answer: Kamino.

Daorcey is the biggest geek

It is official, Daorcey is one of Calgary's biggest geeks. The Sun left a message on his work phone so we're seeing Episode III on Wednesday.

There's a party from 4-5 p.m. and a trivia contest where one can win the Darth Vader voice changer and lightsaber. So there will be no dressing up. Hooray.

My Life as a Clonetrooper

Instead of doing wedding stuff, Daorcey has devoted his attention to winning a contest. And sadly this contest is prove you're the biggest Star Wars geek. Anyways, he's taken some photos and I think they're somewhat funny (although I do not want to encourage him too much). Here's a sample.

To see more unabashed geekiness, click here.

I guess I should mention the winners will see Episode III on May 17 (ooo, one day earlier) and also attend a pre-movie party where lucky contest winners can win a prize pack of the Darth Vader voice changer mask, a lightsaber and other geeky paraphenalia.

I hope Daorcey wins otherwise it's pretty sad that he was not geeky enough.

Two posts ago (click here to read up), we said donating to the Food Bank would be awesome. But it seemed the only way to donate was online. Not so! Monica from the food bank said there are many ways.

People of Calgary are hungry so please help them out.

Meet Garry, our JP

Way back in May ’04, Daorcey and I thought it would be great if we could have James officiate at the ceremony. Alberta at the time was giving out permits that allowed people to be Justices of the Peace for one day and thus could legally conduct a wedding cermeony. Instead of having a stranger we would have a good friend and also someone who wouldn't charge us money to marry us. Unfortunately, people were messing up and there were too many mistakes so Alberta said no more tomfoolery.

Since we didn't know any mounties or captains, we had to pick a regular JP. We thought picking a new one would be hard. Turns out there are only three in the Bow Valley region. Only two had e-mail addresses and only one replied to our e-mail. That was Garry. We haven't met him yet. I'm sure we will, hopefully before the ceremony.

In the meantime, we needed some legal stuff from him so we sent him an e-mail. This is his reply.

DAORCEY & NATALIE: I HAVE BEEN AWAY ON BUSINESS. I WILL SEND YOU A NEW CEREMONY BOOK/MEMO, ETC. THE ADDITIONAL COST WILL BE $1,000.00(AMERICAN). ONLY KIDDING, NO COST. AFTER YOU GET YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE, WE SHOULD MEET IN EARLY/MID JUNE. I CAN PHONE YOU LATER, BUT EVERYTHING IS READY FROM THIS END. I PHONED MOTHER NATURE FOR THE WEATHER ON THE WEDDING DATE, BUT SHE HAS NOT RETURNED MY CALL, BUT NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS. ALSO, I WILL REQUIRE THE FULL NAMES AND ADDRESSES OF THE TWO WITNESSES. HAVE A GREAT WEEK END. REGARDS, GARRY

So he seems funny and likes to yell. Daorcey quipped that Garry won't need a sound system to conduct the ceremony. He reads like a funny guy so we'll see in early June.

Donate to the Calgary Food Bank

Instead of buying us stuff, why not donate to the Calgary Food Bank as a wedding present? We can always buy our own stuff but the food bank always needs money unfortunately. Plus you get a shiny tax receipt for donating $20 or more.

Here's the link to online donation form: Online donation

If you do donate online, send me an e-mail at nisit (at) telus.net. Just replace the "at" with @. I'm just formatting that way so I don't receive spam. And if you do donate with a cheque, just give me or Daorcey a call so we can keep track.

And here's the link to the general site in case you have questions about their programs, how they distribute hampers or anything else.

If you're not comfortable sending your money over the Internet, I'm checking if people can mail cheques. Mmm, punilicious. So look back for an update.

There are things on our registry we definitely need and things Daorcey wants but aren't really necessary *cough*Darth Vader mask*cough*, so please go ahead and donate to the food bank instead.
