Am I the only one?

To all those upset about the current political situation:

This. Is. How. Our. System. Works.

If we don't like how it works, we can:

a) Move away
b) Become involved and change the system/the constitution

Upset about the potential policies that might come out of this parliamentary upheaval? Fair enough. 'Tis the nature of democracy.

But we can't be indignant about appearance of a coalition within a minority government environment. Sure, it hasn't happened all to much, but our system allows for it to ensure the representation of the majority.

This is a situation we (and by "we", I mean all those who voted in the last federal election) created. Our votes and the election of our candidates created the government we have now.

You can be upset. But, please, be upset for the right reason.

(There. That was cathartic.)

Holy poo, thank you for that. I've been reading all these indignant facebook statuses -- craziness on both sides.

It's like people are surprised that a minority government can be overthrown -- as tho it hasn't happened like a billion times in the past three years? One comment said something to the effect of this is screwing voters, and messing with the "mandate" we gave the government... no, actually, this is exactly the government we
(they/you, as I didn't vote - too much paperwork) elected.

I miss you guys.

But, if in Alberta, we say that a coalition should happen, we bring out the TRUE (reform) Conservatives. Our beloved Prime Minister needs to realize that in a Minority Government, there should be some discussion, not just telling those 'bad opposition members' the way things will be.
Nice Rant. Listened to Rick Mercer last night and also the gang at 22 Minutes. Good stuff. I have received two invitations to send emails against the coalition. They must not be former students of mine. (Ha, Ha)
